Seven peaceful years have passed since the legendary defeat of Cell, and Gohan has grown into a high school student, balancing his studies with fighting crime as the masked superhero, the Great Saiyaman. Excitement builds when it is announced that a new World Martial Arts Tournament is being held, and Goku is granted special permission to return from the Afterlife for a single day to compete. The entire Z-Warrior family reunites at the tournament grounds, including Goku's young second son, Goten, and Vegeta's son, Trunks. However, the joyful reunion is suddenly interrupted by two mysterious, possessed competitors who brutally attack Gohan during his match, draining his golden Super Saiyan energy into a special container before fleeing.
